Destination Wedding Dresses

Destination Weddings: A Growing Trend

Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular these days, and why not? They're romantic and fun, exotic and carefree. At a time when modern lifestyles create so much stress in everyday living, there's a lot of appeal in getting away from it all for your special day. Plus, beach weddings are actually extremely economical in these tough times...what a bonus!

It's becoming far more common for couples to have a romantic island wedding alone or with close family and friends, and then to have a reception back home for everyone. After all, it's hard to not have beautiful, romantic wedding photos when you get married on the beach. The backdrop alone sets you up for perfect shots.

What to Wear?
Beach wedding dresses reflect that carefree attitude, not sacrificing style for comfort. Beach wedding dresses also tend to be more affordable. Whether you're on the sandy beaches of the tropics or on the shores of a colder climate, casual wedding style has never been so easy. We have a very large selection of beach wedding dresses and Hawaiian wedding dresses, and these include short wedding dresses, tea-length wedding dresses, and full length wedding dresses with gorgeous trains. We have two-piece beach wedding dresses as well.

Even a holoku, though it has a train, is a more casual, yet elegant alternative to a formal wedding gown. This Hawaiian wedding dress is both comfortable and beautiful. Once a very traditional, conservative dress, the holoku gained popularity in the days of the missionaries, with long sleeves and high necks. The holoku evolved as the now-church-going Hawaiians adapted the dress for our warm climate, and shorter sleeves appeared, as well as more fitted styles. Holokus were made in many different fabrications, from velvet to lace. Our versions are made of 100% cotton, poly/cotton and rayon, for breathability, comfort, and style.

We take great care in designing our wedding dresses. Our Alii Collection, Mystic Hawaii Collection, Pua O Hawaii Collection and Laua`e Collection all are guaranteed to match beach wedding dresses and beach wedding shirts (for children too!), as these fabrics are exclusive to the Hawaiian Wedding Shop. Our Pikake Wedding Collection does also feature matching prints and we do our best to match the wedding dresses and shirts, however, sometimes we are unable to.

Engagement Photos or Wedding Attire Changes
These days, engagement photos are pretty important -- they go on the "Save the Date" cards or on invitations, favors or other wedding items. If you're having a destination wedding, wouldn't it be cute to take engagement photos in one of our informal beach wedding dresses with your fiance in a matching Hawaiian wedding shirt, then send it out on a "Save the Date" card for your beach-themed reception?

Another idea that's been gaining popularity is the changing of attire (very popular in Japanese weddings, for example -- they change from formal wedding kimono to western wedding attire to western party clothes; the Chinese do this as well) for parts of the wedding. For the ceremony, the bride would wear a holoku, and then change into one of our informal wedding dresses for the party afterwards.
