The holoku of old Hawaii was an elegant, if conservative, formal tea dress, with its high neck, long sleeves, and lace. We are delighted to present our Kawehi Hawaiian Wedding Holoku, a modern, stylish version of the Hawaiian holoku for the 21st century.
Backless, strapless and fully lined with satin and including a gorgeous ruffled train (which has a little "handle" as all holokus do so the wearer can walk freely), this holoku is truly as stunning as it is unique.
Maile, the character in Blue Hawaii who married Elvis at the end of the movie, wore a holoku as her wedding gown as the two lovebirds serenaded each other with the Hawaiian Wedding Song as they floated down a river on a canoe toward wedded bliss. Elvis wore a long sleeved white shirt and white pants with a red sash (though his sash color actually should have matched the color of Maile's holoku), considered formal wear in Hawaii. We have a long sleeved white/white Hawaiian wedding shirt, our Kuhio Hawaiian Wedding shirt.
The Holoku Ball, held by the Hawaiian Civic Club, still celebrates the Hawaiian Holoku every year.
Made in Hawaii with aloha.
